The Walt Disney Co. is launching the first theme park in Florida, a resort on a Florida island that will be the home of the first Disney cruise line to open in the U.S.
The company is using the island to launch the first wave of new attractions, with Disney-themed attractions and restaurants and the first new-world resort in nearly 40 years in the state.
The theme park is being built by the Disney-owned DreamWorks Animation Studios in partnership with the Orlando Resort and Spa, the Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuge, and the Orlando City Council, according to Disney and DreamWorks.
It will be called Disney World Florida.
Florida is the first state in the nation to make a formal bid for Disney, with Florida voters in November approving a $1 billion deal that was the first of its kind.
Disney is building the resort, the first to be built in Florida since the company bought the rights to build Disney World in Florida in 2005, and has begun planning for it.
The resort will be a joint venture between Disney-Disney Theme Parks, Disney Cruise Lines and Disney World Resorts, and will include an attraction-filled park and restaurants.
The park will open in 2019.
